OLYMPIC RINGS

The Olympic Rings represent the five parts of the world  joined in the Olympics:Africa, America, Asia, Oceana, and Europe.

OLYMPIC CITIES

The 2008 Summer Olympics will be held in Beijing, China, and the 2012 Summer Olympics will be held in London, England. The 2016 Summer Olympics will be awarded in October, 2009.  Chicago was recently selected as the candidate city to represent the United States.  Announced candidate cities are Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Rome, Prague, Dubai, and Tel Aviv.  The deadline for candidates is September, 2007.

WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION, CHICAGO, 1893

 

The World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 marked the country's coming of age as a political and industrial power. It represented the change from a predominately agricultural America concerned with domestic problems to a modern urban and industrial nation involved in world economy and politics. For the Exposition, Chicago built an entire new city--"The White City"-- larger, more elaborate, and more truly international in scope than any previous fair.

The Chicago's World's Fair, know as "A Century of Progress" was  was conceived as a 100 year anniversary commemorating the city of Chicago and a testament to the industrial and scientific achievements up to that time
