Health Quackery, Frauds, Hoaxes, Deceptions & Cons
The term HIGH CHOLESTEROL was unknown until the mid-1980’s. Now we are all mortally paranoid of this newly christened killer. The side-effects of cholesterol lowering drugs are worse than the “supposed” benefits of lower cholesterol levels. It has never been proven that high cholesterol is harmful. Take notice of how the medical community is already starting to switch positions. All television commercials for cholesterol lowering drugs told us to avoid fat in our diets … now they’re telling us that “high” cholesterol is mostly hereditary. There used to just be cholesterol, now there’s Good & Bad, High & Low, Dietary & Liver Produced. Were they all wrong … apparently so. Fortunately, we are beginning to witness this Gross Misunderstanding of Health slowly recede into the Ebbs of Quackery. For your health, take the time to form your own opinions based on facts and science rather than be frightened by the quacks, advertisers, and media commercialization of this myth.
“Diet has hardly any effect on your cholesterol level; the drugs that can lower it often have serious or fatal side effects; and there is no evidence at all that lowering your cholesterol level will lengthen your life.” excerpt from The Cholesterol Myth, Thomas J. Moore, 1989 [more]
“Remember when butter was bad for you and margarine was the substitute spread of choice? Or when eggs and cheese were perceived as killers? Bacon? Forget about it! All those foods were loaded with cholesterol. artery plugging', heart-stoppin' cholesterol.” excerpt from The Healthy Newsletter [more]
"The idea that too much animal fat and high cholesterol are dangerous to your heart and vessels is nothing but a myth. Here are some astonishing and frightening facts..." Dr. Ravnshov [more]
For decades, enormous human and financial resources have been wasted on the cholesterol campaign, more promising research areas have been neglected, producers and manufacturers of animal food all over the world have suffered economically, and millions of healthy people have been frightened and badgered into eating a tedious and flavorless diet or into taking potentially dangerous drugs for the rest of their lives. As the scientific evidence in support of the cholesterol campaign is non-existent, we consider it important to stop it as soon as possible.
The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics (THINCS) is a steadily growing group of scientists, physicians, other academicians and science writers from various countries. Members of this group represent different views about the causation of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease, some of them are in conflict with others, but this is a normal part of science. What we all oppose is that animal fat and high cholesterol play a role. The aim with this website is to inform our colleagues and the public that this idea is not supported by scientific evidence; in fact, for many years a huge number of scientific studies have directly contradicted it. “The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics” [more]
The Great Cholesterol Deception
What ever happened to . . .
True story out of suburban Chicago, Illinois – circa 1980.
His real name was Ernst Montague but he made damned sure everyone called him “Coach Mongo” as he took pride in the manic reputation he had when it came to winning at all costs. Too many times the cost was paid for by his young players. Players who were unwittingly beset at the hands of a sociopath; likely a result of never getting the perceived attention from a distant father.
My story consists of coach Mongo erupting into one of his unprovoked tirades after a loss to a local team that was superbly talented to our group. “Mongo” must have thought he could out coach his nemesis and get mentioned in a produce flyer and possibly promoted to the next level, (which was only likely to be statistician for some community college)..
This was Mongo’s Wednesday and he was prepared to win or bust out the first kid that called him out during the tirade following the loss.
Matt Bradley was a diminutive kid that played half the time at second base and seemed content in his role. He was a bright kid very mature and content for his age. Not one to follow the masses yet remained a popular kid that did ok with the girls somehow. It was obvious that he was smarter, more mature and better versed in life already at 16 than coach Mongo was at 38. This was the kind of kid that would watch Mongo erupt in a tirade and just sort of take it all in and smirk, sympathetically and intelligently. However on this day he decided to utter a suggestion to Mongo. Four soft simple words barely audible yet we truly believed he was trying to help Mongo out.. As Mongo drove the yellow bus and continued to scream, Bradley spewed out softly “Take it easy, coach”
Mongo called Bradley to the front of the bus and commanded him to take off his gym shoes and put on his metal cleats. Once this was accomplished he calmly drove the bus over to the curb, parked, opened the door and instructed Bradley that he was to get out and walk the rest of the way back to campus, backwards, while he relaxed in the warm bus following him with his teammates. Two blocks from campus he sounded the horn to get Bradley’s attention and yelled out to him “Ok Bradley you can face forward now, but I’ll need you to skip the rest of the way”.
Bradley did as he was instructed and never complained. Bradley quit the team on Thursday. Coach Mongo found his ’72 Ford Torino on fire Thursday evening after returning from yet another road loss. Today, Matthew Bradley is a member of the United States Congressman.
Insane Coaches: Coach “Mongo” Montague, c. 1980
Coach Mongo, 1981 …
6 career wins versus 119 losses
Mattie Bradley,: “The “Day After” his forced genocidal march from Mongo’s 119th loss. He would quit-the-team the next day.
2005 Coach Mongo finally grasped his 35th win. A prep record for 35 years. Now likes to be called by the moniker: “The All-Natural Coach Mongo-Roid”
Matthew Bradley, 2006. Refused to take Coach Mongo’s “act”. Mattie overcame his victimization with a career of service to his “constituents” as a United States Congressman!

Stop any man or woman between the ages of 40 to 50, and the odds are 98% that they wear corrective eye lenses. Today in 2006, this later-tier "baby boom" age slot is by far the most in need of glasses, contacts, bi-focals, and eye surgery. Why, and where did it start?
We can thank the Japanese and the General Douglas Macarthur. The General did a great job in the late-1940's and 1950's to rebuild the Japanese infrastructure into a peace ally with the United States and Western Europe.
It wasn't long before the US shores were flooded with "great" Japanese products that bore the label MADE IN JAPAN. Back in the 1950's Made In Japan meant cheap quality. It wasn't until the 1980's that Japan actually surpassed the US in product quality and reputation. However, the low priced products flooding our shores proved too much to pass up for the wide-eyed American public.
We all can thank General Macarthur and those great doctors of the 50's and 60's who misdiagnosed a major problem just as they missed the debilitating effects and epidemic carnages caused by smoking, lead, and drinking. Those doctors and health professional were really something. It would take two generations to determine the "errors of their ways", and the gross inadequacies of their self-proclaimed medical expertise.
Cheap products included over 35 unique brands of colorful plastic children's sunglasses .. all MADE IN JAPAN without any safeguards and/or standards. These glasses did a great job of shading a child's eyes ... and they were made of un-breakable plastic too! These modern marvels of Sino-engineering only shaded the eyes with colored plastic. They offered no protection from the ultra-violet (UV) or the infrared (heat) spectrums of the rays of the sun. Better yet, since they did shade the eyes, a child would be prone to open their eyes even wider thereby exposing themselves to over three time the UV and thermal rays that they would undergo without any glasses on at all!
