Miss Chatham, my “mentor”
I am not really sure if this experience counts as a near miss, since it was actually a near win. In any case, I thought I’d like to share my experience. I was not the most popular guy in grade school, but I always inspired to be a leader or hold elective office. It all started in 1965 in 5th grade when Miss Chatham selected me to be Line Leader and Student of the Week. She usually went by alphabet, but she saw my leadership and skipped the N’s right to me. She said I did a “Grand Job”, and ever since then I aspired to do more for my fellow students and the friend I had in school. I ran for Class President in 8th grade, and while I didn’t win I know I came very close. In fact Mr. Steele said we were all winners, but would not disclose the actual vote total but told me I was third runner-up, and might be needed in the future. I still know I can be a good leader if called. I’m still waiting for that chance. PS: BTW if you need any help with your site I’d be glad to pitch in. Just e-mail me either a yeay or nay. I check my email every 15 minutes or so. Thanks friend, Jerry
I have been a dedicated Party Poker junkie since I got my Capital One “No Hassle Card”. I had learnt to play by watching the Learning Channel and Celebrity Tournaments. I knew that if Mel Gibson could win for his favorite charity (JDL), then if I followed his techniques, I could win too. After over eight months, 12,000 hands, and three requests to Cap One for additional $7,000 in credit line increases I knew my time was coming. It was late Saturday night and I was playing for high stakes on the 25 cent No Limit table. Pot was over $20 with just me and “Staydown13”. I needed a five for an inside straight, and HIT IT! I went all-in for $500 with my big hand,2-3-4-5-6 with a Jake kicker. “Staydown13 “ called me and … (drum roll please) had a full-house … wiped me out! But I was just one player away from my PAYDAY. Capital One denied any “further advances”, but I still spend at least five hours daily honing my skills on the play money tables … I will be back for my due! The laws of averages says so.

Irish Sweepstakes, 1978 Oversight
Submitted By: Thom McGillicuddy, Dayton, Ohio
I remember back in the 70’s my Mom and her sister would always buy $300 of Irish Sweepstakes tickets from my uncle back in Dublin. One year they forgot to send their money order to my uncle, and he said he bought their ticket allocation for himself. He won! Next year, and every year after, Mom and Aunt Kay doubled their chances at $600! Uncle Colin said on account of the year we skipped He’d have to hold their tickets back home due to tax rules in Ireland until after the drawing. We never won, but we always talk about the year we should’ve!

One last vitamin shot before leg 17 of Tour
Mom always described the feeling she had when she was picked “Queen for a Day” by the local food-mart back home. Now I know how she feels … you see I was the Tour de France Winner for a Week. I trained my whole life for this race, and I was proud to follow in Lance Armstrong’s footsteps. Heck he even called me his protégé’. He looked out for me, and introduced me to all the top doctors, I mean trainers, that he knew. I was robbed of my victory after one week due to an alleged positive test for T-Rone. I never knowingly took any supplements or enhancing drugs. In fact, the herbal all-natural vitamin injections that Dr. Conte provided were guaranteed undetectable and within the normal range of testing errors for HGH. I worked hard to go from last to 1st in one leg! And with Lance on my side I will be vindicated. Oprah, please help!
I had been out of High School going on six years, and was resolved to commit to a healthy lifestyle. I was already jogging two miles every morning, and another three miles after my part-time shift at the video store .. every night. I felt I needed more, and there it was. A raffle for a free health club membership at the local Nicky’s Hot Dog stand. It was as if Providence was calling. I quickly filled-out the form, and anxiously awaited the drawing. Two months later I got the call I was waiting for, “Toby? You did not win the Grand Prize, but you won the Second Chance Drawing for an additional two free weeks added to a new Premium Gold five year membership!”. I may not have won the Grand Prize, but I was plenty proud of the offer they presented, and now am plenty proud of my new commitment and physique!
McDonalds Fan Sets Site on Winning Big … at last
Submitted By: Bob “Happy Meal” Lewandowski, Austin, TX
Bob Lewandowski aims to win the “big payoff”. Meeting with area manager after near miss in 2004.
Added 10/08/2006 (Editor...Bob, There are 160 million people doing the same thing you are. Good Eats!)
Bob, started training back in ‘85. 1st win buy one frie get 2nd at 1/2 price … “got hooked”
My two great loves of my childhood were McDonalds french fries, and playing monopoly with my mom every day after high school. In 1998 I just missed winning that $3 million prize. I got over ten free McMuffins, and fell short … only missing Park Place for that grand prize. This year I know I can win it all. My plan is too “invest” my mom’s social security checks into as many meals I can buy. And, with the new Dollar Menu I can easily hit at least 12 McDonalds per day for each meal. At that pace I should get at least hundreds of game pieces, and if I’m first in line every morning, I should get the 1st piece of the day ... before it’s given to someone else. I’m not good at math, but if you figure it out at 4 dollars per meal, I should make quite a profit if I win the 5 million dollars. Plus the free small drinks which I will sell on ebay.
